I have to admit I was a fan of Tifa - a bit of whoop ass in a lass was fine for me.
My favorite character in Final Fantasy VII is Tifa because unlike most female video game characters (at that time) she's tough not just physically but emotionally and mentally tough.I also like her because she has a sweet soft side to her and when someone is down she cheers them up.I think she's a good role model for women.

Even if Cloud was included, I can guarantee you he wouldn't even have a shot at favorite. Not by a long shot.
I'm almost certainly alone in this, but Yuffie! She was fun to use, cute, entertaining, and the one playable character who wasn't SRS BSNS all the time past a certain point in the game. And Doom of the Living was awesome.
A close second would go to Tifa, since she's very powerful, but also compassionate and reasonably intelligent. No 'dumb muscle' or 'the chick' treatment, which was very nice. I also think she was very fun to use in combat, especially once you got her limit break to completion. Although really, second place probably fluctuates between Tifa and Cid.

Tifa, she's not a whiny wuss.
It would have to be Cid for me; his behavior really made his character stand out and have some funny moments. Always having a pack of cigarettes on his goggles and have one cigarette always ready if needed adds some coolness. Cid was a pretty good character battle-wise as well which added to me likening of him.

No one ever mentions Genesis! Argh rage rage rage he's the greatest character, intelligence surpassing everyone and he's the only one without an emo attitude lol. Plus, his rapier pwns masamune and the buster sword two times over

For me it is a tie between three characters: Red XIII, Vincent, and Cid. Now with this Cid, I love him the best!! The Cid in IV was funny too but the Cid in VII puts that Cid to shame with his mouth and attitude. Vincent's back story was creative and his limit breaks are amazing. Red is an amazing creature; I like him because he isn't your everyday human in another final fantasy. Having a big red wolf fight on your side is very interesting and by far unique. In regards to Villains I'd have to say either Rufus or Reno. Oh....just in case you are wondering, I didn't really care for Cloud at all....even the big sword and big hair. Sure the motorcycle scene was amazing but seriously...I find him to be an odd one in the bunch.
The Turks (particularly Reno, but in general they were great), Cid (my fave party member, it was likely the grizzled old man thing that did it) and Tifa (because shehas nice titsis a strong female character and shit).
I seem to find the more I play FFVII, the more I like most of the playable characters, but the less I like Cloud and Sephiroth.
Vincent or Yuffie. Yuffie is kinda cute... She reminds me a bit of Rikku from FFX, but that's not why I like her, just thought I'd point that out xD I think Yuffie is pretty underrated though. She's just amusing and likeable ^_^ I'd probably have to choose Vincent over her though. Not only does he kick ass and have an epic character design, he's kinda hot in Advent Children *fangirl*
I would have to say Sephiroth, Red, or Barret. I dont know why Barret but I think they are all BA!!! and they have a certian feel about them that makes them awesome.
Yuffie. She's cute, funny and I liked her story. Wutai was a fascinating contrast to the rest of the FF7 world. Cid was awesome, too. My favorite party was probably Yuffie, Cid and Red XIII.

My favorite would have to be Zack because he is very adventurious like me. He also can make a lot of funny jokes and make sure that everyone is safe. He will also cheer you up on a sad day when you have no one else to turn to.
Red XIII, Vincent, or Cait Sith....unless GF are included then the FF8 GF's are another one.
Good god this threads name should be changed to "Is Vincent or Sephy your favorite, if not who is but Cloud is not an option. Really? Seriously? I have seen a few people that have some what caught on to this.
If the main protagonist is elminated from the equation why is the antagonist not also. Then again that would also mean the removal of Jenova seeing it is never clearly stated that she is in fact not the real antagonist of the game.

Mine would be Aeris, Barret, Cait Sith, and Cid. I can't really choose just one.
Aeris because I find her to be an interesting character, she is outgoing and likes to flirt with Cloud. Not to mention she was the one who got Cloud to dress like a girl. XD
Barret because he has a gun for an arm, has an interesting backstory, and has some pretty awesome limit breaks.
Cait Sith because he just stands out. It's not every day you get a robot cat riding on a giant moogle doll for a party member, especially when you find out who he really is.
Cid mostly because I remember him from Kingdom Hearts. A game that I'll admit is where I first really learned about the Final Fantasy series. Plus he can pretty pretty badass at some points.
You heard of Final Fantasy from Kingdom Hearts? that's definitely backwards but the series is great so make sure to play as many as you can. :) as far as my other favorite character i'd go with Cid because he just seems so real to me, kinda has that burnt out personality that really makes him likable. He does also become more of a leader which was good to see someone take charge of that role
